Location scauting for commercial photography and movies

Hello, my name is Ola. I live and work in Iceland as a guide for groups and as a photographer.  I explore and discover locations and assist companies as location scout in Iceland. Our company Njóta Íslands is based in Reykjavík and Egilsstadir -East Iceland. We help find suitable locations in Iceland for photo and film sessions that will attract companies to choose Iceland as the perfect place for their productions or photo sessions.

What is location awareness?

Location recognition means finding real places that can serve, for example, as fictional locations described in a movie script. In filming or during photo sessions, the right location supports the narrative and helps create a believable world.

In film production, location scouting involves finding places to shoot commercials, TV shows or movies. The location manager (or scout) searches for interior or exterior locations to serve as locations for scenes depicted in the script. Location scouting is an important part of the pre-production process.

Location scouting is an important process in the pre-production stage of filmmaking and commercial photography. Once writers, producers or directors have decided what kind of general setting they need for the various parts of their work that are shot outside the studio, the search for a suitable location or “location” outside the studio begins. Location scouts also look for generally spectacular or interesting locations in advance to have a database of locations in case of special requests from the client.

As people responsible for choosing the right place for your photo or film session, we also offer:

  1. Photographing the direction of where the camera may be, panoramic photography, or drone shots to show the space available for the camera, lighting, video assistance, and possibly hair and makeup (for clients during a commercial shoot)
  2. Geographic coordinates, other map data that may be applicable to Iceland
  3. Ambient lighting conditions at different times of the day (or night), solar data, i.e. sun angle at different times of the day
  4. Photos of parking spaces and available parking and/or no parking signs
  5. Sketches of the layout (streets of the building), projection of the building/room, data on the dimensions of the room or area
  6. Crew/vehicle access data, i.e. doors, corridors, elevators, stairs, availability and information about personnel who will allow us to obtain such permits
  7. Transport and accommodation for the entire crew

Our research includes location scouting in Iceland, profile identification, planning etc. For filmmakers planning to film in Iceland, Islandiatravel fixer provides a detailed report on their requirements by providing the location in Iceland, negotiating and confirming the activities that are planned in the script. This helps foreign filmmakers to plan their schedule accordingly with minimum expenses and time.

Why do you need a fixer in Iceland?

A fixer can prepare travel plans, film itineraries, locations, location reports, etc. through extensive research and prior location scouting in Iceland. The fixer has access to local sources throughout Iceland. You just need to tell us what to look for. What places, what colours, what interiors, what spaces?
Fixer in Iceland will take care of your production needs if you need them – equipment, transport, accommodation, crew and, above all, spectacular locations throughout Iceland.
Black beaches of Iceland, endless, multicoloured plains, incredible glacial rivers of Iceland, the thunder of powerful and beautiful Icelandic waterfalls, blue glaciers, grey and yellow geothermal fields, hot springs, views of volcanoes as if from another planet… these are just a few of the amazing locations available both for production films and photos in Iceland.
Our passion is traveling around Iceland (I have been exploring it almost every day for over 11 years, reaching places that most people do not reach). I have extensive knowledge of amazing and often secret locations for locating films, sessions and frames. I try to make my locations both interesting and logistically feasible. I am also open to new journeys to any areas, in search of new, special film locations that are necessary for the story you want to tell your viewers.

Location library

I have been a location scout for many years, and I have a large database of locations in Iceland (over 20,000 photos from Iceland) – making my database the perfect tool for your research needs. I also spent a lot of time hiking around Iceland to places that others have no idea exist or are visited very rarely, even by local residents.
